Xbox 360

I was given an Xbox 360 from one of my teachers. She told me that it still worked but the disk tray wouldn't come out. I had never worked on a console before so this was very exciting for me!

First I had to work out how to manually eject the tray. In a Xbox 360 there is a plastic drive belt and they get dusty and jam. So i figured I would clean that and see if it worked. I popped off the front plate and ejected it using a paperclip. Lo and Behold it came out. I ran the belt under the sink until it was clean. Now came the hard part...

Putting it back in. I grabbed my tweezers and attemped to put it back. And I dropped it into the console. It wasn't a big deal since I was going to clean the fans aswell just a minor annoyance.

I unclipped all the in the top, bottom and side. This took a little patience without a Xbox 360 opening tool. I unscrewed the torx screws and took the bottom plate off. I found the belt and opened the disk drive and placed it back. I removed the fan covering and cleaned the fans, I took the heatsink off and repasted it. I then put it back together. And it worked! It runs perfectly. I am very glad it is not RROD (Red Ring of Death) because that requires a GPU replacement. RIP the Xbox 360 store 29/7/2024.
